The 17th International Food Industry Exhibition ‘Riga Food 2012’ held at Kipsala International Exhibition Centre from 5–8 September will offer an extensive display of industry players and professional associations, multitude of competitions, performances and other exciting and captivating activities.
Riga Food is the biggest food industry event in the Baltics. It highlights the development trends in the industry, brings novelties and helps you find business-minded and trustworthy partners. 580 companies from 34 countries are taking part in this year’s exhibition to showcase their newest products and services. Riga Food 2012 will also accommodate 15 national collective stands of Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Georgia, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Canada, Hungary, Turkey, China, India and Poland.

Innovations for Food
Exhibition has a particular focus on innovation in the food industry, bringing new products developed by Latvian universities, research institutes and through food industry innovation support schemes. Animation stand will present the newest food industry products and solutions implemented by businesses, scientists and researchers. The keyword of the LTC stand “Innovation for Food” is cooperation; however a number of novelties developed in conjoint with business incubators, research institutes and universities will be displayed there.
Riga Food 2012 is the place where the best chefs, pastry chefs and bartenders go head-to-head to find out who is the most professional, skilled and original, and who deserves to win competitions and contests. This will no doubt be a thrilling, educating and exciting spectacle for both the professionals and bon vivants.
Pastry Chef of the Year 2012, held on 5 September, will reveal the best cake-maker and pastry-baker in Latvia. This year pastry chefs will make kid’s birthday cakes and candies.
Young chefs under 23 will come all over Latvia to Kipsala on 6 September to challenge the title of Latvian Apprentice Chef 2012 by showing off their talent, skills, knowledge and qualities. Young chefs will make a cold starter from a Baltic flounder with cauliflower and leek and a main course from a lamb shank with potatoes and mint.
On 7 September the Latvian Chef 2012 Final will reveal the best chef in Latvia. This event is also aimed at promoting the professional growth, exchange of experience and mutual help among chefs. Eight best Latvian chefs will compete in making cold starter from a Baltic flounder with cauliflower and a main course from a lamb shank with green lentils.
Latvian Bartender Federation organises two interesting bartending competitions – Evian & Badoit competition in mixing non-alcoholic cocktails on 6 September and De Kuyper Latvia Cup 2012 on 7 September.
On 8 September young pastry chefs will show their skills and creative potential at “Cheesecake Festival 2012” making cheesecakes.
Food manufacturers and chief technologists will compete for Riga Food medals for outstanding quality food products. This year companies will compete in the following categories: milk, sour cream, cheese, bread and honey.
To promote the Latvian-produced organic products, promote consumption, as well as highlight the diversity and high quality of organic products, the Latvian Organic Agriculture Association in collaboration with the International Exhibition Company BT 1 and the Ministry of Agriculture first will hold the Latvian Eco Product 2012 Competition. The results will be announced during the opening ceremony at 11.30 on 5 September.
Latvian Medical Association will present the awards “For Investment into Public Health” to the healthiest Latvian food products, the production and sales of which started last year. Award ceremony on 7 September at 12.00.
Events for Professionals
Alongside vast food display, “Riga Food 2012” will present an extensive programme of events for professional audience. On 5 September professionals will have an opportunity to attend seminars “Food supply to the public sector: new opportunities, significant changes in the future and challenges” “Organic farming products and homemade foods – risks, benefits and opportunities” and “Innovation to prolong the freshness of bakery products without E substances – TTT products“.
On 6 September, Kipsala International Exhibition centre will be attended by the participants of a major international conference “Nutrition and Health” to discuss new and functional foods, while ECR Baltic will hold a seminar on “Returnable transport items standardization and pooling options for dairy and meat categories in the Baltic States“.
Latvian Technological Centre and Enterprise Europe Network in conjoint with the International Exhibition Company BT 1 will hold business meetings with food companies from Poland on 7 September.
Get involved, work and enjoy!
Every “Riga Food 2012” visitor will be able to be a witness to different competitions and shows, and to engage in different activities, to work, to learn, to be inspired and taste the wide range of products.
Participants will take care of tasting activities to get feedback of their existing or potential clients. The participants of Latvian National Collective stand, for instance, will offer for tasting dairy products, bread, honey, fruits, berries, jam, spices, pastries and even wine.
On 8 September, Latvian baristas will hold a master class on preparation of various types of coffee, which might be useful for every coffee lover.
From 1–9 September, Riga’s most outstanding restaurants, pubs, cafes, patisseries and pizzerias will join in the Gastronomy Festival to show the high levels of professionalism in catering and hospitality and a unique range of gastronomic senses each of participating caterers offer to the residents and guests of Riga. Gastronomy Festival is part of the “Riga Food 2012”programme.
“Riga Food 2012” is organized by International Exhibition Company BT 1 in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia, Latvian State Institute of Agrarian Economics, Latvian Technological Centre, EEN – Latvia, Chefs’ Club, Latvian Bartenders Federation, Diplomatic Economic Club and the economic sections of foreign embassies residing in Latvia, and supported by professional organisations and trade and economic missions of foreign embassies residing in Latvia.
